Who should attend?

The SIA security officer training top up course is for security officers and Security Guards who are renewing their SIA Licence after 1st October 2021 need to take this course. Top-up training for an SIA licence includes new knowledge, which was introduced to recognise the new risks and challenges of modern security guard jobs. You will learn how to effectively control crowds, the best practices for working in security post-pandemic, as well as specialist skills in recognising and proactively preventing terrorist acts.

The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door supervisor and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.

Training Time

To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 6 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 1 hour and 50 minutes contact time (0.5-days) if self-study is undertaken. Please refer to Highfield’s qualification specification for further details on self-study.

Entry requirements for SIA Security Officer Training Top Up

  1. Age – In order to enrol in an SIA course, you must be at least 18 years of age. This is a legal requirement and is designed to ensure that individuals are mature enough to work in the security industry.
  2. First Aid – Learners will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is an SIA requirement that training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW).
